The Institute was founded in 2011 by Henry M. Paulson, Jr., the 74th Secretary of the Treasury and former chief executive of Goldman Sachs to promote economic growth and environmental preservation in both countries through programs, advocacy and research. They work at the nexus of economic and environmental issues in the United States and China. Their programs in China focus on improving climate and air quality, advancing nature conservation and promoting sustainable cities. In the United States, they promote bilateral cross-border investment that will improve US-China relations and help create jobs. Their Think Tank publishes papers on the most important macroeconomic issues facing China today, energy strategies, and issues in US-China economic relations. They have offices in Chicago (at the University of Chicago), Washington and Beijing.
