THEYA Healthcare is a multi-award winning medical device company that designs and manufactures innovative post surgery garments scientifically proven to soothe and speed up healing. The company was founded by entrepreneur, Ciara Donlon, after she discovered a gap in the post surgery lingerie market whilst running her own successful lingerie retail business in Dublin. Women undergoing treatment for breast cancer would regularly ask her to find comfortable, feminine underwear that met their need... s, but Ciara quickly realised that such a product didn't exist. After conducting research with 80 breast cancer survivors and putting their valuable insight at the centre of the design process, Ciara launched Theya Healthcare's flagship post surgery range of underwear in 2015. Theya Healthcare uses a unique bamboo mix fabric which has been scientifically proven 92-97% antibacterial as well as 59% more absorbent and 19% better at wicking moisture away from the skin than cotton. The unique design features of the range were put to the test in a clinical trial across four Dublin teaching hospitals and Theya Healthcare’s range outperformed competing products in terms of Body Image, Health Status and Pain. Patients wearing Theya Healthcare bras in the four week post surgery recovery phase experienced an 8.5% improvement in Body Image, a 20% improvement in Health Status and a reduction in levels of irritation, wound discomfort and pain. The results for competing products over the same timeframe showed a 9.5% deterioration in Body Image, only an 8% improvement in Health Status and increased pain levels in the region of patients’ scars. Since Theya Healthcare began trading in 2015, its founder and CEO, Ciara Donlon, has been recognised by numerous awards, including winning the prestigious Cartier Women's Initiative Award and being listed as a finalist in the EY Entrepreneur of the Year in 2017.
