Established in 1869, Tougaloo is an HBCU with a rich history. Originally a seminary, Tougaloo College is affiliated with the United Church of Christ and is committed to providing equal educational opportunities to all people, regardless of ethnicity, creed or financial or social background. For example, if he or she chooses, an Economics major can add an emphasis in Accounting or Business Administration. There are also some dual-degree programs available through the Division of Natural Science. These include Engineering, Pre-Nursing and Dentistry. Tougaloo College attempts to remove its students’ financial obstacles, offering several kinds of financial aid. Among these are the school’s many institutional scholarships, which are awarded based on academic achievement, athletics and need to eligible students. Tougaloo’s music department also offers scholarships to exceptional students. Admissions at Tougaloo are somewhat flexible. Students who don’t meet the school’s requirements can make an appeal for conditional admission, and Tougaloo has transfer agreements with several local community colleges.More
