UNITED STATES MILITARY ACADEMY AT WEST POINT

The United States Military Academy at West Point, familiar to most as simply West Point, is the oldest and most prestigious military academy in the United States. Located in West Point, New York, 50 miles north of New York City, West Point has been honored by U.S. News and World Report, Forbes and Princeton Review as a top liberal arts school. Cadets, as students at West Point are called, engage in rigorous academic study as well as physical, ethical, mental and spiritual training to pre... pare them for service in the U.S. Army. A four-year coeducational federal service institution, West Point grants bachelor’s degrees to its cadets. There is a core curriculum consisting of 26 foundational courses which all cadets must take; they then add to that by selecting a major from one of more than 35 subject areas. In their third and fourth summers of study, cadets serve in army units around the globe. Upon graduation they are commissioned as second lieutenants. In addition to receiving acknowledgement for its unmatched academic and military training, West Point has also been lauded for its impressive extracurricular activities. Recreational and sports facilities include an on-campus skating rink, ski slope and golf course. Additionally, the cadets’ presence can be seen at such nationally relevant activities as Major League Baseball games.
