WASHINGTON HEALTHCARE ACCESS ALLIANCE
WHAA range in size from simple multiple times drop in sessions to entities that approach federally qualified health institutions. They all share the trait of not charging for their services and reliance on the dedication and commitment of community volunteers, including healthcare professionals, social workers, retirees, business owners, and students. Each contribution is critical in addressing issues with service quality, including record keeping, volunteer recruitment, training, and retention, board development, and, of course, funding. People that work in and with free clinics looked for formal ties that focused on issues shared by clinics in order to address these problems. These connections served as the seed for the development of a more formal networking system.
