WhatTheTrend.com (WTT) provides context and meaning to social trending topics. We use a crowdsourced model, like Wikipedia, to enable thousands of users to define Twitter's trending topics in near real time (with plans to go beyond Twitter in the future (i.e. Facebook). Additional context such as categories and related links can be also provided. We currently process over 250 million API calls a month and deliver over 2.5 billion trend definitions monthly to apps such as TweetDeck, UberSocial, and Twitter as well as Mashable, AdAge, and CBS. WTT also covers all of Twitter geographic locales, that is, we provide trend meaning geolocated to over 100 locations (citys and countries).
