WINDLIFT
Windlift is an engineering and computer programming company that develops airborne wind energy systems that use tethered drones to capture wind energy at 200-400 feet. The drone (pictured above) flies much like a kite, and electric power is generated with 4 onboard motors. The AWE uses 10% of the material that horizontal axis wind turbines use. This drastically reduces the cost of energy as this technology scales. Windlift was founded in 2006 and is headquartered in Morrisville, North Carolina, United States.
