The Wood County School of Practical Nursing, located on the West Virginia University Parkersburg campus, offers aspiring health care workers the opportunity to receive a fully accredited nursing education in as little as one year. Wood County’s academics will prepare you to take the practical nursing licensing examination. Whether you intend to become a registered nurse or seek higher education in the medical fields, Wood County’s nursing program will help you on your way. Students will ta... ke examinations periodically throughout their training to ensure mastery of all topics. To enhance their nursing training, Wood County requires all students to take part in at least two community service projects a year. You can volunteer for events like Relay for Life, chaperone local school dances, conduct blood drives throughout the community or help the Fall Special Olympics. To encourage more West Virginians to join the medical profession, Wood County offers reduced tuition costs to state residents. Wood County’s admissions are determined based upon an applicant’s strength of high school curriculum, medical examination and personal interview. Students who file a FAFSA and demonstrate the need for financial assistance will be considered for Wood County financial aid through federal Pell grants, Workforce Investment Association programs and Vocational Rehabilitation funding initiatives.More
