The Giovanni Agnelli Foundation is an independent institute of culture and research in the humanities and social sciences. It was founded in 1966 by Fiat and IFI, which have given the assets, on the centenary of the birth of Senator Giovanni Agnelli, the founder of Fiat. It is based in Turin. The Foundation is non-profit. The statute assigns the task of "furthering and spreading knowledge of the conditions to which Italy's progress in the economic, scientific, social and cultural development... " and to work in support of scientific research. It is a foundation-type 'operating' that promotes and conducts research, organizes seminars and conferences, publishes the results of their studies. The Foundation has since its inception in this Italian and European cultural debate with the aim to contribute their research to the understanding of the changes in Italian society and the definition of policies that enable economic growth and the country's civil in European and global context. It addresses and communicates independently with the civil society and of Italian culture, with political and economic, with public institutions. Since 2008 the Foundation has chosen to focus its research on issues educational campaigns (schools, universities, lifelong learning), in the belief that the quality of human capital is, now more than ever, one of the main factors of wellbeing economic, social cohesion and the pursuit of individuals. As a research center that today is mainly engaged in education, the Foundation emphasizes the value and centrality of a public system of education and, with particular reference to Italy, he studied the three fundamental dimensions and can not be separated: its fairness, in terms of the substantive right to education for all, its effectiveness, in terms of quality of learning, and its efficiency in terms of the best possible use of human and financial resources in respect of the budget balances. In Turin, the city where it is headquartered, the Foundation participates with major public and private institutions in the debate on the future of the city, offering their specific contribution to the cultural and research.
