Formerly a millionaireโ€™s estate, Georgian Court became an institute of higher learning in 1908 and received full university status in 2004. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1985, in part because it has one of the only real tennis courts in the world. Despite its historical campus, though, Georgian Court Universityโ€™s academics are quite progressive. In addition to its 30+ concentrations, the school has recently introduced some new and unique academic programs, such as an mas... terโ€™s in Homeland Security, a minor in Sustainability, and a certificate in Holistic Health Studies. Georgian Court is divided into two schools: the University College and the Womenโ€™s College. The University College admits both men and women and includes graduate as well as undergraduate studies. The Womenโ€™s College, on the other hand, is specifically designed for womenโ€™s education, and comprised exclusively of undergraduates. Though it isnโ€™t guaranteed, GCU attempts to provide financial aid for all of its students. Federal and state grants are available for eligible students, and the university funds a number of scholarships itself. For example, the John Bishop Smith Full Tuition Scholarship is open to Catholic students in the Trenton Diocese.
